Michael Herbert describes himself as a ‘maker’. From early days of model-making, go-kart construction, wooden toys, repairing cars, or building bikes, working with his hands always came naturally.
His training came with wooden boat-building in Suffolk, an area with a long history and culture of this industry. Consequently, his more than adequate skills have set him up perfectly for the application of modern furniture.
The beautiful shapes, or ‘lines’, of boats in general, led him to follow a more developed visual, creative urge in the form of a BA degree in Sculpture at Chelsea School of Art.
After an extensive period of travel he returned to set up a construction company focusing then on set-building/prop-making in theatre, commercials and film, but evolving into his present company of custom furniture, prototypes, design and construction.
